1Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

Revelation 21:1

1. The word “heaven”

a) First heaven
The atmosphere
b) Second heaven
Outer space
c) Third heaven
The dwelling place of God

2. New heavens

a) A reference to the first two heavens
b) Not a reference to the abode of God

3. Literal new heavens and a new earth

THE NEW JERUSALEM

Revelation 21:2-4

1. The holy city, Jerusalem

a) It comes from heaven
b) It is prepared as a bride adorned for her husband

2. An announcement made

a) The temple is the Tabernacle of God
b) This Tabernacle is with men

3. God’s Presence

a) He will dwell with them
b) They shall be His people
c) The Lord will be their God

4. A special act of love

a) He will wipe away all tears
b) No more:
i) Death
ii) Sorrow
iii) Crying
iv) Pain
c) The former things have passed away
