"And there was water"

Text: Ezekiel 47:1

A SPECIAL STREAM OF WATER

Ezekiel was led by an angelic guide to witness something unusual. This was a prophecy that is captivating in many ways!

“Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple
faced east; the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar. He brought me out by way of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that faces east; and there was water, running out on the
right side.”
Ezekiel 47:1-2

1. Back to the door of the Temple.

a) The Temple had been carefully designed.

b) This was well described (Ezekiel 40).

2. Flowing water from the Temple.

a) This was revealed to Ezekiel.

b) The source of water was from under the threshold of the Temple.

c) It flowed eastward to the front of the Temple.

d) The water flowed from under the right side of the Temple.

3. Brought to the North Gate.

a) Ezekiel was led via the North Gate.

b) He was then led to the outside of the Gate that faced East.

c) The water from the Temple had flowed out to the outer Gate.

4. What was this vision all about?

a) The prophecy of Joel

“And it will come to pass in that day
That the mountains shall drip with new wine,
The hills shall flow with milk,
And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water;
A fountain shall flow from the house of the Lord
And water the Valley of Acacias.”
Joel 3:18

i) Joel wrote about this source of water from the house of the Lord.

ii) This is in complete agreement with what Ezekiel wrote.

b) The prophecy of Zechariah.

“And in that day it shall be
That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem,
Half of them toward the eastern sea
And half of them toward the western sea;
In both summer and winter it shall occur.”
Zechariah 14:8

i) Zechariah wrote about “living waters (that) shall flow from Jerusalem”.

ii) This prophecy fits the vision of Ezekiel too.

c) The angelic guide would reveal to Ezekiel more details concerning this special source of water.
