All Glory To God

The twin pillars of Bethany

Bethany started as a small, humble house church that we fondly call Bethany I. As we look at Bethany IV today, we cannot help but see the Lord’s hand in transforming us from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Standing proudly and majestically at the entrance of our church building are two grand pillars. Their inclusion in the design and plans of the church building is not without significance. The two pillars of Bethany represent the Word of God and prayer. These two vital spiritual “pillars” have played significant roles in the spiritual growth and development of the church. This is how the Spirit of God has been at work in our midst…to shape Bethany into what it is today.

1. The ministry of the Word of God

  1. A key part of Bethany has been the ministry of the Lord’s Word.
  2. This is why the pulpit ministry has played a significant role in Bethany all these years.
  3. Throughout each year, the Lord would lay within the heart of Pastor Charles themes that would minister to the needs of our brethren.
  4. This is where the heartbeat of the church is…where needs are met and hearts are touched.
  5. The Word of God is taught with relevance and depth.
  6. This is how the faith of our brethren has grown and developed.
  7. The Lord Jesus taught that His words are spirit and life (John 6:63).
  8. Through His Words, the Holy Spirit continues to keep Bethany alive, vibrant and thriving.

2. The ministry of prayer

  1. Another key part of Bethany is the ministry of prayer.
  2. The Lord Jesus demonstrated His example of giving time to prayer and seeking His Father’s understanding and guidance for His ministry (Mark 1:35).
  3. We have sought to follow His example in seeking the Father concerning all our ministries.
  4. Through humble prayer, we look to God for His grace and mercy to lead and bless us.
  5. As the Lord answers our prayers, we see His great blessing and development in our church.
  6. Bethany is what she is today because we have sought the Lord for His leading, understanding and strength…to fulfil the ministry that He has entrusted to us.

3. The work of missions

  1. Through the Word of God and prayer, the Spirit of God has led us to our various overseas missions.
  2. In Bethany I, we were only providing support to a few missionaries in different countries.
  3. Today, Bethany’s mission work has grown by leaps and bounds.
  4. We have seen our numerous churches in India, Myanmar, Perth and Kenya developing spiritually and physically.
  5. Currently, we have construction projects in different areas to cater to this healthy growth.
  6. We thank God for the Spirit’s ministry in growing our mission work…from edge to glory.

All glory to God

As we recognise the importance of the ministry of the Word of God and prayer in our church, we cannot help but see the glory of the Lord being reflected. We see the Spirit of God working and changing us from glory to glory. Let us be challenged to give exuberant and glorious praise to the Lord as we celebrate our Anniversary this Sunday. Wishing everyone a Happy and Blessed 50+2 Anniversary!
