"The width of the entrance to the gateway"

Text: Ezekiel 40:11

THE ENTRANCE TO THE GATEWAY

The “entrance” to the gateway was actually a sizeable building, akin to a tower. There was quite a bit of space allocated to the “entrance”.

“He measured the width of the entrance to the gateway, ten cubits;
and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.
There was a space in front of the gate chambers,
one cubit on this side and one cubit on that side;
the gate chambers were six cubits on this side and six cubits on that side.
Then he measured the gateway
from the roof of one gate chamber to the roof of the other;
the width was twenty-five cubits, as door faces door.
He measured the gateposts, sixty cubits high,
and the court all around the gateway extended to the gatepost.
From the front of the entrance gate
to the front of the vestibule of the inner gate was fifty cubits.
There were beveled window frames in the gate chambers
and in their intervening archways
on the inside of the gateway all around,
and likewise in the vestibules.
There were windows all around on the inside.
And on each gatepost were palm trees.”
Ezekiel 40:11-16

1. The width and length of the “Entrance”.

a) The width was ten cubits.

b) The length was thirteen cubits.

2. Space in front of the Gate Chambers.

a) A fair amount of space was allocated.

b) This allocation of space makes the Temple precincts significant.

3. Measurement of the Roofs.

These were of considerable measurements, adding to its grandeur.

4. Measurement of the Gateposts.

a) The Gateposts were of considerable size too.

b) There were two sets of Gates:

i) Outer gates.

ii) Inner gates.

5. Beveled window frames.

a) The word “beveled” points to a sloping of the frames.

b) Palm trees were engraved on the Gateposts.

c) There was also a touch of aesthetic beauty added.

The Temple precincts would be both beautifully and strongly built.
