"You devour men"

Text: Ezekiel 36:13

THE LAND OF ISRAEL PERSONIFIED

The land of Israel was personified. God was speaking to the land and addressing it solemnly.

“Thus says the Lord God:
‘Because they say to you,
‘You devour men and bereave your nation of children,’
therefore you shall devour men no more,
nor bereave your nation anymore,’ says the Lord God.
‘Nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations anymore,
nor bear the reproach of the peoples anymore,
nor shall you cause your nation to stumble anymore,’
says the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 36:13-15

1. God was speaking to the land of Israel.

a) People were saying.

b) “You” (the land) devour men.

c) And (you) bereave your nation of children.

2. God declared to the land these words.

a) You shall devour men no more.

b) You shall not bereave the nation of any more children.

c) God rebukes the land and forbids it to do any more slaying of the inhabitants.

3. God addresses the land kindly.

a) The land had heard many taunts from foreign nations.

b) It bore much reproach of many people from different nations.

c) The land caused the nation of Israel to stumble.

d) God will cause a great change to take place.

e) The land of Israel would no longer be hard to till.

f) It would be a land that would flourish.

g) The inhabitants would praise the land for its goodness.

h) God’s hand of blessing would be upon the land.
