GENUINENESS OF FAITH

A PRECIOUS GIFT FROM GOD

Faith is a precious gift from God to be deeply treasured. Sadly, it is often taken for granted. Few take the time and trouble to consider developing faith in the Lord.

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 

7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 

8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 

9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.     1 Peter 1:6-9

  1. The worth of a genuine faith

a) It is much more precious than gold

b) The point of comparing faith with gold is not insignificant

c) The world values gold in many ways

d) Imagine our faith as something more valuable than gold

  1. Tested by fire

a) As gold is tested by fire and becomes even more refined

b) So faith when tested by fire would emerge more valuable too

c) We need not be afraid when our faith is tested by fire for genuine faith can withstand great heat

A FRESH APPRECIATION OF OUR FAITH

  1. A genuine faith does not need sight to believe
  1. A genuine faith enables us to find glorious joy 
  1. A genuine faith would be found to be “praise, honour and glory” at the revelation of the Lord Jesus when He returns
