THE WORD OF FAITH

Text: Romans 10

 A NEW SERIES OF PULPIT MESSAGES

We will commence a new series of Pulpit messages today. We will be celebrating Easter in April this year. Easter is often less celebrated, unfortunately. But Easter is as important for us as the Passover is to Israel. This series of messages hopes to help us refocus and find again the significance of having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

A QUICK SUMMARY OF FAITH 

Faith in God is sometimes assumed. We assume that we have the necessary faith to trust God. The Apostle Paul devoted his life to discovering and teaching the essential tenets of faith. We have a summary of how he viewed faith.

5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 

6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 

7 or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.     Romans 10:5-10

  1. Faith is “believing in the heart” 
  1. Faith is focused on the fact that God raised the Lord Jesus from the dead
  1. The heart believes, and one is given “righteousness”
  1. Confession of faith in the Lord Jesus leads one into salvation

LET US CHECK OUR HEART

Let us check our heart with reference to our faith in the Lord Jesus. Let us seek a deepening faith in our wonderful Saviour!
