Text: Exodus 32: 17-18
MEDITATION
Exodus 32:17-18
17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
18 But he said: “It is not the noise of the shout of victory, Nor the noise of the cry of defeat, But the sound of singing I hear.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Joshua
a. He faithfully attended to Moses.
b. He was such a good assistant to Moses.
c. When Moses came down from the mountain Joshua was there to meet him.
d. Both heard loud noises.
e. Joshua was a military man and so he thought that somehow war had broken out against Israel.
f. He had led Israel to victory in a battle against the Amalekites earlier.
g. He was aware of the fact that there were powerful enemies out there.
2. Moses
a. He did not think that it was the noise of war.
b. In war the cries are distinctive:
i. There are the shouts of those who are victorious.
ii. There would be the loud wails of those who had lost.
c. The voice of singing
i. Ordinarily, this would bring cheer to the heart.
ii. But God had already told Moses that the children of Israel had worshipped a golden calf.
iii. These were the sound of songs that were being sung to the golden calf.

17约书亚一听见百姓呼喊的声音,就对摩西说:“在营里有争战的声音。”18摩西说:“这不是人打胜仗的声音,也不是人打败仗的声音,我所听见的乃是人歌唱的声音。”
