Dear Parents,

GREAT WISDOM NEEDED
No one would doubt or dispute the necessity of possessing great wisdom in the work of parenting. Where does one find the wisdom to guide children effectively? Mercifully, we have the Scriptures. Therein lies the greatest and the most profound source of wisdom any parent could ask for.

THE UNIQUE BOOK OF PROVERBS
Each book of the Bible contributes its own special features. The Book of Proverbs provides much needed practical wisdom that all parents can draw upon easily. May there be great determination to draw deeply from the wellspring of wisdom found in the Book of Proverbs.

WISDOM DRAWN FROM OBSERVATIONS IN LIFE
The wisdom found in the Book of Proverbs may be said to have been derived from the context of life itself. Take for example this text.

‘It is good for nothing,’ cries the buyer;
But when he has gone his way, then he boasts.

Proverbs 20:14

1. Hard observations

This was a “hard observation”. It is nevertheless a very realistic one.

a) There are such people in the world.

b) They practise deceit as a way of life.

c) They cheat and take advantage of others.

d) They have no remorse over their wrong-doing.

2. Many great challenges of parenting

a) We must warn our children about the wickedness that exists in the world.

b) We must steer them away from the paths of evil.

c) We must provide better alternatives for them to consider.

We would be blessed indeed when our children with discernment choose the path of righteousness. Let us never grow weary in our task of parenting.
