DO YOU LOVE ME?

DO YOU LOVE ME?

The Disciples had an extremely fine catch that day,
Deep down they knew that Jesus made it that way.
They came to the shore with that great big catch,
Jesus had already started breakfast their hunger to match.

The Master invited them to the breakfast He had prepared,
To ask Who made the breakfast for them, no one dared.
It was their loving Teacher, their wonderful Risen Lord,
This was the One whom Thomas said, “My Lord and my God.”

Jesus spoke to Peter when his hunger was appeased,
“Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”
His heart was stirred, he humbly replied, Yes, Lord, you know I love You.”
Jesus wanted Peter to examine his own heart to see if his love was true.

“Feed My lambs… ” This was Peter’s work that God had assigned to him
Peter trembled with humble joy that Jesus had no condemnation of his sin.
But he was surprised when Jesus asked him once again, “Do you love Me?”
Peter’s heart was stirred once more; he replied, “I love You” with deep humility.

“Feed My sheep…” The Lord had expanded the scope of his ministry,
Peter was never afraid of hard work and so he embraced this word easily.
To Peter’s great grief Jesus asked again, “Do you love Me?”
He wanted Jesus to look into his heart and see that he loved Him immensely.

“Feed My sheep…” Jesus wanted Peter to have a true Shepherd’s heart,
He must not keep looking back at the time when he fell apart.
There was a great work that he and his disciples could do for the Lord,
They must find renewal from grace, and together serve with one accord.
