ARE YOU THE KING OF THE JEWS?
They brought Jesus bound to the Roman governor,
These enemies knew that they could win Pilate’s favour.
They refused to enter into the Praetorium, for they had a Passover to keep,
They would not defile themselves for the Passover they wanted to eat.
Pilate came out of his official court with a face that was grim,
What was the charge against the Man they had brought to him?
They laid no charges except that He was an evil doer, and deserved to be tried,
Pilate wanted to dismiss the case; in all religious matters, he had decried.
The enemies declared that Jesus deserved the death penalty,
Pilate was stunned; the accusers had already determined He was guilty.
He spoke to Jesus alone and he began with this word,
“Are You the King of the Jews?” he roughly inquired.
What was this line of interrogation Pilate had adopted?
Had he heard from others? Was he truly interested?
Pilate retorted, “Am I a Jew?” His voice showed disgust under his breath,
His own nation and the chief priests had demanded His death.
“My kingdom is not of this world,” Jesus quietly replied,
If His was an earthly kingdom His servants would fight.
There was a Kingdom that Pilate knew nothing about,
The Kingdom of heaven was what He proclaimed throughout.
“Are you a King then?” Pilate pursued this point,
“You say rightly that I am a King,” for God did Jesus anoint.
He was born for this cause, to preach the truth of God,
And everyone who believes, his name, Heaven will record.
Pilate was perplexed and confused,
“What is truth?” He spoke, bemused.
He concluded his investigation and stood tall,
He boldly declared, “I find no fault in Him at all.”
