I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
What did Jesus mean when He spoke of being the Light?
He warned of darkness that oppresses with all its might.
He knew that His destiny was to be the Light of the world,
How He fulfilled this is a delight to the soul.
Jesus tied in light together with life,
There is light even when things are rife.
The battle with darkness will always be fierce,
The light that He gives will be able the darkness to pierce.
He declares boldly, “I am the light of the world.”
Many heard these words, and their minds were in a whirl.
How could Jesus make so bold a claim?
How could anyone boast of such a fame?
“As long as I am in the world…” Jesus explained,
His soon departure from the world was so plain.
There was still so much work yet to be done,
Jesus would labour till the set of sun.
The light of Jesus teaches us just how we should live,
The long battles with darkness must not cause us to grieve.
Many are still groping in the darkness of night,
Great is our joy when people turn from darkness to the Light.
