HOSANNA!

HOSANNA!

The multitudes had heard that Jesus was going up to Jerusalem,
News like this swiftly gathered great momentum.
Many still nursed the thought that He could be their King,
They would come to greet Him, and with hosannas sing.

Some took branches from palm trees and waved them high,
Others laid their cloaks on the road for their King as He rode by.
The song, “Hosanna,” reflected the nation’s fears and pain,
For this ancient song was almost always sung almost as a sad refrain.

“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” was a jubilant cry,
But their faith in Him was doubtful, Jesus noted with a sigh.
If they had truly believed that He came in the name of the Lord,
Their Hosanna greetings would be truly blessed of God.

Once again Jesus sought to teach the people who thronged around,
But there was too much noise among the people, He did not make a sound.
He chose a donkey to ride upon as He came up to Jerusalem,
Could the people understand this as they sang their great anthem?

Jesus was indeed the King if they had eyes of faith to see,
He had not come to set up an earthly kingdom- that was reality.
He came to tell people about the Heavenly Kingdom of the Lord,
And how through Faith in Him they would become the sons of God.
