A STUDY OF HOW GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES

 

  1. The promises of God made to mankind

 

  1. The examples of God making a promise to Abraham Hebrews 6:13

a) A promise is a word that God has given

b) A promise is given with an oath

c) God swears by Himself because there is no one greater

 

THE PROMISE OF BLESSING GIVEN BY GOD TO ABRAHAM

 

  1. Statement of God’s promise

“Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you”           Hebrews 6:14

a) Firm promise of blessing

b) Assurance that this blessing will be kept

c) Guaranteed by God’s oath

 

  1. Abraham’s part

a) He patiently endured

b) He obtained the promise Hebrews 6:15

 

  1. Comment on how man makes promises

a) Men swear by something or someone greater Hebrews 6:16a

b) An oath is given for confirmation to end dispute Hebrews 6:16b

 

GOD’S DETERMINATION TO ASSURE THE HEIRS OF PROMISE

 

  1. God wants to abundantly assure the heirs of promise Hebrews 6:17a

 

  1. That His counsel (promise) is immutable Hebrews 6:17b

 

  1. He confirms His word with an oath Hebrews 6:17c

 

  1. It is impossible for God to lie Hebrews 6:18a

 

 

STRONG CONSOLATION

 

  1. We may have strong consolation in God Hebrews 6:18a

 

  1. We have fled to a sure refuge in God and His word Hebrews 6:18b

 

  1. We may strongly lay hold of the hope set before us Hebrews 6:18

 

AN ANCHOR OF THE SOUL

 

  1. Our Hope in God is like an anchor of the soul Hebrews 6:19

a) It is sure

b) And steadfast

 

  1. Jesus the Forerunner

a) He has gone ahead of us Hebrews 6:20a

b) He has entered into the presence of God behind the veil Hebrews 6:19c

c) He is our High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek Hebrews 6:20b

 

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE

 

Hebrews 6:18

 

That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
