THE TYPICAL MINDSET OF THE JEWS

1. Called a Jew (Romans 2:17)

2. Rest on the law (Romans 2:17)

3. Make boast in God (Romans 2:17)

4. Know God’s will (Romans 2:18)

5.Approve things that are excellent (Romans 2:18)

6. Instructed out of the law (Romans 2:18)

7. Confident in being a guide to the blind( Romans 2:19)

8. A light to those in darkness (Romans 2:19)

9. An instructor of the foolish (Romans 2:20)

10. A teacher of babes (Romans 2:20)

11. Having the form of knowledge and truth in the law (Romans 2:20)

IMPORTANT SELF-EXAMINATION

1. You who teach another, do you teach yourself? (Romans 2:21)

2. You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? (Romans 2:21)

3.Υοu who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? (Romans 2:22)

4. You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? (Romans 2:22)

a) Not actual robbing
b) But making money selling things to temples
c) Making lots of money through this lucrative trade

5. You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonour God
Through breaking the law? (Romans 2:23)

a) Name of God blasphemed among the Gentiles
b) Because of you (Isaiah 52:5 cited)

THE RITE OF CIRCUMCISION

1. This was the sign of God’s Covenant given to Abraham (Genesis 17:11-12)

2. Significance

a) Historical
b) Covenantal (Abrahamic Covenant)
c) Cultural
d) Religious
e) Personal

3. But what if a person is a breaker of the law?

a) The circumcision has become uncircumcision (Romans 2:25)
b) There is no efficacy in the rite of circumcision by itself

4. The instance of the uncircumcised person keeping the religious requirement of the law

a) His keeping of the law is “counted as circumcision” (Romans 2:26)
b) The physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the law
Will judge the Jew who transgresses the law (Romans 2:27)

5. Who is the Jew?

a) He is not a Jew outwardly (Romans 2:28)
b) He is not a Jew just because he is physically circumcised (Romans 2:28)
c) He is a Jew who is one inwardly (Romans 2:29)
d) He has the circumcision of the heart (Romans 2:29)
e) In the Spirit, not in the letter (Romans 2:29)
f) Whose praise is from God and not men (Romans 2:29)

USE OF THE WORD “CIRCUMCISION”

1. With reference to the heart
Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart (Deuteronomy 10:16 , Jeremiah 4:6)

2. With reference to the ear
Indeed their ear is uncircumcised (Jeremiah 6:10)
