THE NEED FOR MORE LABOURERS

Seeing The Extensiveness Of Ministry

One man cannot do God’s work alone. The work of ministry is so extensive that it takes many more. This may have been on the minds of the disciples when they saw how the Lord Jesus tirelessly ministered from city to city.

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
Matthew 9:35

He went everywhere, fully committed to doing this work of reaching out to others and teaching them the truths of the kingdom. Surely, the disciples must have realized how extensive ministry was and that one man cannot do the work alone.

The Lord’s Deep Compassion For The Lost

“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.”
Matthew 9:36

What was it that drove the Lord to minister the way He did? He was able to comprehend the deep needs of the multitudes. He was able to sense the hopeless state of the people to such an extent that He was deeply moved with pity for them. They led such stress-filled lives. There was no sense of direction in what they did. They were like sheep scattered about: lost and weary. The Lord Jesus worked the way He did because He had deep compassion for the people. Young people, our friends who are non-believers pass us by everyday. Do we see their “lost” predicament? Are we moved by their state of helplessness in life?

Praying For More Laborers In God’s Work

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Matthew 9:37-38

The reality of the matter at hand is that there are just too few laborers in ministry. The Lord saw how the harvest was truly abundant but people who were committed to doing God’s work were just too few. This is a problem that did not just affect the society during the days of Jesus. It is also a problem of our generation. There are so many lost sheep in this present world but not many who are reaching out to them. The Lord Jesus’ call was for His disciples to pray for more laborers who would do this work of reaching out. Young people, if we are concerned for the lost, then, let’s pray for more servants of God. Let’s also consider rising up to the Lord’s call for more laborers to be send out. We need more servants of God. More than just praying for them, let’s also seek to be that laborer whom the Lord can send out.
