THE EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF HIS POWER

God’s power is limitless. There is no end to it. It is far, far greater than we can ever imagine it to be. This was what the apostle Paul had in mind as he wrote to the Ephesian Church.

“And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power …”
Ephesians 1:19

Even as he prayed that the Ephesians would understand the hope of their calling and the riches of His inheritance in the saints, he prayed that they would also discover the boundless potential of the power of our almighty God in their life. This amazing power has been made available to all when we continue to believe in Him. He would work within us according to the working of the might of His strength. Young people, God’s power is something that we can fully rely on. It can go beyond being theoretical to something concrete and very real in our lives and ministries.

THE DEMONSTRATION OF HIS GREAT POWER IN CHRIST

One of the ways to see the reality of the Lord’s power is through the demonstration of it. There are two ways of seeing this.

1. IN RAISING JESUS FROM THE DEAD

“… Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead …”
Ephesians 1:20

The word “worked” is the word “energeó”. There was that energising power of God at work in Christ. That great power worked in Him when He was dead and resurrected Him from the tomb. That surpassing power involved in this deed of greatness continues to have an effect on people till today.

2. IN HONOURING HIM IN THE HEAVENLY PLACES

“… And seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places …”
Ephesians 1:20

Not only did God’s power raise Him from the dead, it also highly exalted Him and set Him to be seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

A. ALL SUPREME POSITION

“… Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named”
Ephesians 1:21

The Lord’s position in heaven is so supreme that no power in the physical realm or in the spiritual realm will be greater than it. Even till today where names are still being named, it is impossible for any being to be more supreme than Christ. God’s surpassing power continues to be effectual today. The Lord’s name is far above any name in heaven or on earth and one day every tongue would confess that Jesus is indeed Lord (Philippians 2:9-11).

B. ETERNALLY SUPREME POSITION

“… Not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”
Ephesians 1:21

The Lord’s position would not just be supreme in this age. It will always be supreme for all eternity. His position would be secured for the ages that are still coming. We cannot even begin to imagine such amazing power at work.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Young people, God’s amazing power is graciously available to us. The power that raised Jesus from the dead and had given Him a supreme position in the heavenly places is also ours to tap into. For those who are taking exams in the weeks ahead, may the Lord empower you and grant you His strength. Let’s learn to rely on this exceeding great power of God. Let’s learn to believe in this wonderful provision.
