When We Do Not Confess Our Sins

Youth Conference 2009 has just ended. Many enriching and thought-provoking Biblical lessons were taught during this annual event. One that impacted many hearts was on the topic of forgiveness. Pastor Charles was challenging the conferees on the need to have a restored relationship with the Lord through seeking His forgiveness. What happens when people do not seek the Lord for forgiveness? In the text of Psalm 32, David described how he felt when he remained silent concerning his sins.

“When I kept silent, my bones grew old
Through my groaning all the day long.

For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;

My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”

Psalm 32:3-4

He felt the guilt of his sins and the heaviness of the Lord’s invisible hand on him throughout the day and night. His strength had departed from him. He felt like his soul was experiencing a drought. When we do not confess our sins, the turmoil of our soul can affect us spiritually, mentally and physically. It robs us of the joy of our salvation. Young people, we must not allow ourselves to remain quiet before the Lord when we sin against Him. It is more harmful than most of us would realise.

Humble And Honest Confession Of Our Sins

“I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.

I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’,

And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”

Psalm 32:5

David acknowledged his sins before the Lord. He was most honest with himself when it came to confessing his sins. Very often, we try to hide our sins from God. We seek not to be transparent before Him. How foolish of us to think that we can conceal our transgressions before an omniscient God! David came before the Lord and readily confessed his transgressions to Him. The Lord in His abundant mercy forgave him of his sins. When we confess our sins, the Lord is faithful and just to forgive us.

Rejoicing In Sins Forgiven

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven…
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,

And in whose spirit there is no deceit.”

Psalm 32:1-2

It is indeed a great blessing when our sins have been forgiven by the Lord. There will come a great sense of joy when we know that our sins have been set aside. The Lord will not impute sin upon us. Blessed is the person whom the Lord has forgiven him of all his sins. Truly, he will rejoice in his salvation. Let’s always seek the Lord for his forgiveness when we sin against Him. Let’s not remain silent because it will rob us of our joy and more. May we always appreciate the privilege of having our sins forgiven.
