THE LORD’S LEADING IN KEEPING THE CHRIST CHILD SAFE

The Lord God specially watched over and protected the Child Jesus and His family. There were times when their lives were in mortal danger. The Lord God was graciously there to specially guide and warn them through His angel. This was done till they were out of danger.

1. BEING LED BY GOD TO SAFETY

“Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt”
Matthew 2:13

After the wise men had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to take his family and flee to Egypt. He revealed to him that Herod was planning to kill the young Child. They were to stay in Egypt until it was time for them to return.

2. BEING LED BY GOD AT THE RIGHT TIME TO RETURN TO ISRAEL

“Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel”
Matthew 2:20

The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph again after Herod had died. He was to return to Israel with the Lord Jesus and Mary. It was now safe to go back to Israel.

3. BEING WARNED BY GOD OF DANGERS AHEAD

“And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.”
Matthew 2:22

On the way back to Israel, when Joseph heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea as king instead of Herod, he was afraid to go there because he was a wicked King. God warned Joseph of the dangers ahead and he turned and went to settle in Nazareth instead. He specially protected them.

FOLLOWING THE LORD’S LEADING

When the Lord sought to lead Joseph and his family, he humbly followed Him. There were no questions asked on the part of Joseph. He readily followed the Lord’s leading.

1. TAKING HEED WITH URGENCY

Joseph was a just man. He feared the Lord and sought to live his life righteously. When he heard the words from the angel, he exercised faith and took heed of them. He responded to the word with urgency. He quickly got down to doing what was required of him.

2. OBEYING CONSISTENTLY

Joseph did not just obey the words of the angel for only one occasion. He consistently did so. When he was asked to leave for Egypt, he swiftly followed the word. Later, he was asked by the Lord to return with his family to Israel and he obediently did so. Along the way, he was warned concerning dangers ahead and he wisely chose to avoid Judea. He consistently obeyed the word and the Lord led and watched over his family.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

While the Lord does not speak to us through angels today, He continues to speak and warn us through His word. The word of God alerts us of many dangers in the world. During the Youth Worship services, Pastor has been warning us about sins and problems when not dealt with can have grave consequences in our life. Our part is to take heed to these words of warning and wisdom given to us. Let’s seek to be guided by the word of God. Let’s obey it with faith, with urgency, and with consistency.
