COMING BEFORE THE LORD WITH JOY AND THANKSGIVIING

Psalm 100 is about coming to God in worship with much joy and thanksgiving. The Psalmist rejoiced in the privilege of being able to know Him personally. He also had a sense of gladness in that he could relate to God as His God and Shepherd. He challenged all to give thanks to the LORD.

“Be thankful to Him”
Psalm 100:4

The focus of thanksgiving is the LORD Himself. As we think about Him, we should have a heart of deep appreciation for who He is and what He has done for us. With deep appreciation, there comes a heart that is grateful. When our hearts are grateful, we can be thankful. When we are thankful, we can express thankfulness to the Lord with much joy.

REASONS TO BE THANKFUL TO GOD

“For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.”
Psalm 100:5

1. WITH REGARD TO SOME ASPECTS ABOUT WHO GOD IS

A. APPRECIATING THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD

The Lord is indeed good and there is nothing evil or wicked within Him. He does all things for His people out of His goodness. He will lead them as a shepherd in His pastures. He will provide for all their needs. He will specially protect and keep us.

B. APPRECIATING THE ABUNDANT MERCIES OF THE LORD

Because the Lord is good, He is also merciful to us. The Lord has always been merciful to man from the creation of the world till today … and forever. There is no end to the Lord’s abundant mercies. Firstly, there is the Lord’s general mercy that is applied to all mankind. It is given to both the good and the bad. Secondly, there is the Lord’s specific mercy that is given to those who exercise faith in Him. It is out of His great mercy that we can even be part of His people. It is through His mercy that there can be forgiveness of our sins. He can sustain and honour us through His everlasting mercies.

2. WITH REGARD TO WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN US

The Lord has given to us timeless truths that we can understand and apply to our life. They are eternal and applicable to all generations; for the old and the young. They are truths that can guide us and we can trust in them fully.

Each week at Youth Worship, we learn wonderful truths from His word. Let’s learn to treasure them and be thankful for them.

THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE GO TOGETHER

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”
Psalm 100:4

How should we come before the Lord in worship? It should be done with thanksgiving and praise. Our hearts should be full of thanksgiving to the Lord. When we are thankful to the Lord, it should cause us to give heartfelt praise to Him. We should bless His name with joy and thanksgiving. His name represents all that the LORD is.

With this new strain of Covid 19 virus called Omicron spreading throughout the world and perhaps Singapore soon (two recent transit passengers at the Changi Airport from South Africa were tested positive for the Omicron variant), the tendency is for us to be disheartened or be fretful. Young people, let’s set aside these negative feelings. Instead, let’s be thankful that we have the LORD in our lives and He is in control of all things. Let’s give thanks to Him and praise Him that He is our God, and He is good and merciful to us. Let’s be thankful that we can believe in His truths and we can hold fast to them.
