Misgivings concerning God

We are now about a month into 2015 and already, this year is turning out to be far more challenging than what we had expected it to be. Difficulties at work and the problems of life may prove to be somewhat overwhelming at times. This may cause us to have misgivings about God. The people of Israel had to go through their own struggles which caused them to have their own misgivings about God. These misgivings were highlighted by the prophet Isaiah, “Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my just claim is passed over by my God”?’ (Isaiah 40:27) They felt that God was no longer watching over them and that He did not seem to be responding to their pleas. It was important for them to rediscover and to behold their God all over again.

Waiting upon the Lord

What does it mean for us to wait upon the Lord as we seek to rediscover Him?

1. Examine our understanding of God all over again

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?” (Isaiah40:28)

When we wait upon the Lord, it means re-examining our understanding of God. We should return to our fundamental knowledge of God…that we should have known and should have heard. The Lord is our great and everlasting Creator, “The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” (Isaiah 40:29) While we may faint and falter…He does not. We cannot search fully all that He understands. In facing our struggles, let us seek to rediscover God and to stand in awe of our great and awesome Creator.

2. Experience the power of God

“He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall,” (Isaiah 40:30)

We should wait upon the Lord and experience His strength. We should seek to experience the power of God all over again in our life. God can give us the power to make us strong. He can replace our lack of might with increased strength. There will be times when we would be weary and fall. It is His power that will sustain us through the challenges of life. Let us be challenged to experience the power of God.

3. Expressions of a renewed strength

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

As we wait upon the Lord, we would indeed find special renewal. Our strength would be renewed by the power of God. Our renewed strength would be expressed in different ways. The prophet Isaiah expressed this renewed strength as mounting up with wings like the eagles. It is an amazing sight to see an eagle soar up to the sky. This is how our renewed strength would bring an uplift to our hearts. Another expression is that we would be able to run as an athlete in the marathon of life and not grow tired. Renewed strength in the Lord will enable us to keep on running and not stop. Also we would express our strength in walking on in the walk of life and not faint. Let us be challenged to renew our strength in the Lord.

Let us be challenged to wait upon the Lord… that we may truly behold Him in our lives and renew our strength in Him as we carry on facing the challenges of 2015.
