A most appropriate challenge

I was particularly challenged by what Pastor gave as the first message of 2016. It was a most appropriate word to us to begin the year seeking the Lord’s face first more than anything else in this world.

Often times, we tend to seek other things first in our planning for work, life and even ministry. It is so crucial for us to give priority to seeking God. How should we understand the challenge of seeking the face of God?

1. A call from God to us

“When You said, “Seek My face,” (Ps 27:8)
It is indeed profound to think of what God is saying to us….”Seek My face.” Our God who is great and awesome is inviting us humble human beings to seek His face. What a wonderful privilege it is that we can have this access God and to seek His face. This great God is to be sought, and found and to be known in greater depth. Let us heed His call to seek Him.

2. It should be the most natural thing to do

“My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” (Ps 27:8)

I like the way in which Pastor explained this text. He spoke of how it should be the most natural thing to seek the Lord.

For all that God is and for all that He has done for us in our time of need, we should be motivated to seek the Lord. It should be most natural for us to physically and spiritually seek the Lord.

Awakening of the force

Pastor gave us the challenge to awaken the force within us… that sensitivity to respond to the Lord and to seek His face. I was greatly delighted with this challenge. (Being a Star Wars fan since 1977) I really like this idea of the force…this natural motivation to seek the Lord. We should awaken this force and to respond by seeking God.

Some of us may not have sought the Lord very much in the past. It is good to recognize that it should be our most natural need to seek the Lord.

Some others may not have been seeking the Lord’s face in 2015 as we should. We have been seeking the world and the things of the world. Somehow, this force within us is lying dormant. Now is the time for us to awaken this motivation to sense and to respond to the Lord calling us to seek His face.

A wonderful goal for 2016

What is one goal that we want to have for this year? Let us awaken the force to seek the Lord. It begins with a desire…“One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” (Ps 27:4) Our desire should lead us to seek the Lord … to be in the house of the Lord and to behold the beauty of the Lord. We want to know the Lord and to inquire of Him in prayer. As we enter into 2016, let us be challenged to awaken our sensitivity to God, to truly seek His face and to behold Him in His glory and beauty.
