AS SILVER IS REFINED

Afflictions are often painful and difficult to bear;

Pain causes us to be weary with worries and cares.

Harsh experiences can cause people to doubt;

God seems to be hidden by a thick dark cloud.

The problems in life may be described as a hunter’s net;

People are seen as prey and life can be fearful and sad.

Wicked enemies tread underfoot those who are weak;

The mercy of the Lord God is what the humble seek.

But afflictions need not be feared so terribly;

Faith enables us to hope in the Lord greatly.

God may allow painful trials to be experienced;

The challenge is to discover faith’s relevance.

God sees us as silver that needs refining;

There is no need to give in to unwonted pining.

The trials we go through can bring rich fulfilment;

Let us find renewed hope through encouragement.
