A GENTLE COMMENCEMENT OF MINISTRY
1. A word to Aaron

Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.

Exodus 4:27a

a) Simple and straightforward command

b) No elaboration of plans for the liberation of the children of Israel

2. Compliance of Aaron

So he went and met him on the mountain of God, and kissed him.

Exodus 4:27b

a) Again there was no query on Aaron’s part

b) He accepted the Lord’s word

3. Meeting between Moses and Aaron

So Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which He had
commanded him.

Exodus 4:28

a) Every word of the Lord shared

b) Emphasis: “Sent”

c) Evidence: “Signs”

i) Rod

ii) Hand

iii) Water to blood

4. Gathering of all the elders

Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. And Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people.

Exodus 4:29-30

a) Gathering of the elders

b) Aaron functions as spokesman          Cf. Exodus 4:16

c) Moses performs the signs before the elders

5. Response of the children of Israel

So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel and that
He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

Exodus 4:31

a) The people believed

i) Simple faith

ii) Untested faith

b) The substance of their faith

i) The Lord had visited the children of Israel

ii) He had looked on their affliction

c) Further response of the people

i) They bowed their heads in humble gratitude

ii) They worshipped the Lord
