1. The Law (Romans 7:1)

a) Those who know the Law (Mosaic Law)
b) The Law has dominion over a man as long as he lives

2. Illustration of Marriage I (Actual) (Romans 7:2-3)

a) A woman is bound by the law to stay married until the husband dies
b) But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband
c) If the husbands lives and she marries another man she is called an adulteress
d) But if her husband dies, she is free from that law
e) She is free to marry another man

3. Illustration of Marriage II (Figurative) Romans 7:4 (Cf. Ephesians 5:21-33)

a) Dead to the Law through faith in the Lord
b) Now one may be married to another- To Him who was raised from the dead
c) That we should bear fruit to God

4. The flesh and the Law (Romans 7:5)

a) In the flesh
b) Sinful passions aroused from knowing the Law
c) Fruit that leads to death occurred

5. Delivered from the Law (Romans 7:6)

a) Delivered from the Law
b) Having died to what we were held by
c) We should now serve in newness of the Spirit
d) Not in the oldness of the letter

6. Is the Law sin? (Romans 7:7-12)
Certainly not!

a) The Law reveals the nature of sin
b) Sin will make use of the Law to cause a person to transgress
c) Sin deceives
d) Sin destroys
e) But the Law is holy and just and good
