Message Notes

UNIQUE MIRACLE FOUND ONLY IN MARK’S GOSPEL

1. Healing of a blind man

2. Deep lessons

a) For the Disciples
b) For the blind man

3. Some people brought this blind man to Jesus

a) They interceded on his behalf
b) They asked Jesus to touch him            Mark 8:22

JESUS HEALS THE MAN IN A PRIVATE AUDIENCE

1. This approach is similar to the one where He healed the deaf mute at Decapolis            Mark 7:31-37

2. The blind man was led out of town            Mark 8:23a

3. Spitting on the man’s eyes            Mark 8:23b

4. Put His hands on him            Mark 8:23c

5. He asked him if he saw anything            Mark 8:23d

THE RESPONSE OF THE BLIND MAN

“I see men like trees, walking.”            Mark 8:24

A SECOND TOUCH

1. Jesus touched the man’s eyes again            Mark 8:25

2. The blind man now regained his sight completely            Mark 8:25

3. Admonition to the man who was healed            Mark 8:26

a) Neither go into the town
b) Nor tell anyone in the town

SIGNIFICANCE

1. Jesus did not want to focus on the healing ministry

2. There were so many who were spiritually blind and they need to obtain or regain spiritual sight!

3. This miracle was of special significance to the Disciples!

#45 BEWARE OF THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES

A casual remark, a chance statement and many things were revealed,
The disciples felt guilty, their neglect could not now remain concealed.
“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod,” Jesus said,
These words brought consternation and caused the disciples to be afraid.

But they had feared the wrong things, they began to realize,
Jesus had sought to teach them how they could become wise.
They listened with faces that blushed deeply, for what Jesus said was true,
They had failed to learn the lessons, they had missed their cues!

They should have paid greater attention to what Jesus had taught,
They had failed to assimilate His words, His wisdom they had not caught.
There was much more to Jesus than the nuggets of wisdom He uttered,
But their inability to comprehend showed that their minds were still cluttered.

In-depth knowledge of what Jesus taught would not be easy to obtain,
The disciples would have to put in far more effort this wisdom to attain.
They must determine to use their ears and eyes far more judiciously,
They must apply themselves to what was taught far more diligently.
