Message Notes

JESUS TEACHES HIS DISCIPLES ABOUT HIS SUFFERING ONCE AGAIN

1. He will be betrayed           Mark 9:31

2. They will kill Him            Mark 9:31

3. He will rise from the dead on the third day            Mark 9:31

WHY DID JESUS TEACH THIS AGAIN?

1. The first time round Peter rebuked Him            Mark 8:32-33

2. They had not comprehended His teaching

3. They had trouble accepting this teaching

RESPONSE AT THE SECOND TEACHING OF CHRIST’S SUFFERING

1. Great sorrow felt            Matthew 17:23

2. They did not fully understand what Jesus meant            Mark 9:32

3. They were afraid to ask Him            Mark 9:32

4. This was hidden from them            Luke 9:45

The above is a general description of the Disciples.

THE LACK OF COMPREHENSION

1. Despite seeing Jesus transfigured

2. Despite assurance that Jesus would rise from the dead on the third day

3. A lack of faith

4. Unbelief had settled in more deeply than they had comprehended

5. Because of all of the above, understanding was hidden from them

THE PRINCIPLE OF SPIRITUAL COMPREHENSION HAD BEEN TAUGHT EARLIER            Mark 4:23-25

1. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear            Mark 4:23

2. Take heed what you hear            Mark 4:24

3. Take heed how you hear            Luke 8:18

4. Whoever has, more will be given            Mark 4:25

5. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away            Mark 4:25

POEMS BASED ON THE GOSPEL OF MARK #6 – Charles Tan

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE

Jesus had left the ministry for the other Disciples to handle,
He came down from the mountain to discover that they had bungled.
A man had brought his demonized son to His disciples with hope in his heart,
But sadly they were not able to cast out the demon who was bent to tear him apart.

Jesus looked at the scene and He felt deeply aggrieved,
How long would it take for them to truly believe?
The father explained to Jesus that the demon had for years severely ravaged his son,
He tortured the young lad mercilessly from morning till the day was done.

He knew that Jesus had the power to help but was He compassionate enough?
He pleaded with a heart that had seen much pain and thus his words were rough.
Jesus asked him if he could believe that He cast the demon out with great power,
The man looked into his heart and he knew that he must deal with unbelief in that hour.

He believed that Jesus could help him but there were still seeds of doubt,
Jesus exercised compassion and with great authority ordered the demon out!
With great venom the demon cast the boy to the ground to slay him if he could,
The lad and his grateful father clung to each other with joy as before Jesus they stood.

They understood what Jesus meant when He said “All things are possible,”
Faith was the key that enabled them to overcome what seemed impossible!
The disciples also learned valuable lessons for their life and ministry ahead,
They must not allow their faith to remain weak, they must cultivate a stronger faith instead.
