CHURCH PRAYER MEETING
Text: Exodus 30:22-38

THE HOLY ANOINTING OIL

1. Composition of the Anointing Oil

a) Quality spices    Exodus 30:22

b) 500 shekels worth of liquid myrrh    Exodus 30:22

c) 250 shekels worth of sweet-smelling cinnamon    Exodus 30:22

d) 250 shekels worth of sweet-smelling cane    Exodus 30:23

e) 500 shekels of cassia    Exodus 30:24

f) A hin of olive oil    Exodus 30:24

2. These ingredients are to be made into a holy Anointing Oil

a) Compounded according to the art of a perfumer    Exodus 30:25

b) Great skill would be needed to make this oil

3. The Use of the Anointing Oil

a) The Tabernacle of Meeting    Exodus 30:26

b) The Ark of the Testimony    Exodus 30:26

c) The table (Showbread) and all its utensils    Exodus 30:27

d) The Lampstand and all its utensils    Exodus 30:27

e) The Altar of Incense    Exodus 30:27

f) The Altar of Burnt Offering and all its utensils    Exodus 30:28

4. The Effects

a) These objects become “consecrated” (set apart and holy)    Exodus 30:29

b) Whoever touches them must be holy Exodus 30:29

c) Aaron and his sons are to be consecrated as priests to serve the Lord    Exodus 30:30

5. Strict Prohibition

a) The Anointing Oil is holy to the Lord    Exodus 30:31

b) It cannot be poured on man’s flesh    Exodus 30:32

c) This Anointing Oil cannot be manufactured for common usage    Exodus 30:32

d) Anyone who attempts to make ii will be cut off from the nation    Exodus 30:33

e) Anyone who applies the Anointing Oil on people outside the priesthood would also be cut off from the people    Exodus 30:33

THE MAKING OF THE INCENSE

1. Composition

a) Sweet spices

b) Stacte

c) Onycha

d) Galabanum

e) Pure frankincense

f) Equal amounts of each    Exodus 30:34

2. Incense

a) To be made by a perfumer    Exodus 30:35

b) Salt to be added    Exodus 30:35

c) Pure and holy    Exodus 30:35

3. Utility of the Incense

a) To be put before the Testimony in the Tabernacle of Meeting    Exodus 30:36

b) This was where God would meet with His servant (the high priest)    Exodus 30:36

4. Strict Prohibition

It is forbidden to make incense for any personal usage    Exodus 30:37
