THE KING OF THE SOUTH
(Empire of Egypt- the Ptolomies)

1. The nation will become strong Daniel 11:5a

2. He will gain power and a great dominion Daniel 11:5b

3. Attempt to form an alliance with the King of the North some years later Daniel 11:6

4. Failure of this coalition

a) Daughter of the king of the South (Berenice, daughter of Ptolemy Philadelphius 285-246 BC)

b) King of the North (Syria) – Antiochus II Theos (261-246 BC)

c) Possibly… a marriage alliance

d) No authority

e) Given up… suggestive of “failure”

5. Branch of her roots – reference to Berenice’s brother (Ptolemy III Euergetes 246-222 BC)

6. Ptolemy III will go to war with Syria and be victorious Daniel 11:7

a) Successful war campaign

b) Many things and people brought to Egypt (captivity) Daniel 11:8

THE KING OF THE NORTH

1. He goes to the King of the South but is defeated Daniel 11:9

2. He returns home- but not as a conqueror Daniel 11:9

3. His sons stir up strife

4. They build a big army Daniel 11:10

RESPONSE OF THE KING OF THE SOUTH

1. He became angry

2. In a rage he goes to war with the King of the North Daniel 11:11

3. He too has a huge army Daniel 11:11

4. He will prevail … but only temporarily Daniel 11:12

THE KING OF THE NORTH

1. He may have lost some battles Daniel 11:11

2. But he plans to retaliate… with an even larger army and with greater equipment Daniel 11:13

THE PROBLEM OF WAR OVER THE YEARS

1. It is not going to cease till Christ Jesus returns

2. We have to learn how to exercise faith

3. We have to learn how to draw the needed strength from the Lord

4. Much wisdom is needed too
