HISTORICAL CONTEXT

1. In the 1st year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus Daniel 9:1a

2. Made king over the realm of the Chaldeans Daniel 9:1

3. Possible reference to Cyrus , the first king of the Medo-Persian empire

BABYLONIAN TO MEDO-PERSIAN EMPIRE

1. Lion with eagle’s wings (Babylonian) Daniel 7:4

2. Bear raised up on one side, with three ribs in its mouth (Medo-Persian) Daniel 7:5
Also Ram with two horns; one horn higher than the other Daniel 8:3

3. Significance: God’s Prophetic word was being fulfilled before Daniel’s eyes!

THE WRITINGS OF JEREMIAH

1. Understood by the books Daniel 9:2b

2. Specified by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet Daniel 9:2c

3. Seventy years – the desolations of Jerusalem Daniel 9:2d

4. Reference : Jeremiah 25

a) Prophecy given in the 4th year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah Jeremiah 25:1

b) Jeremiah had by then prophesied for 23 years Jeremiah 25:3

c) But the people of Judah had not listened Jeremiah 25:3
