THE NATIONS THAT WERE LEFT UNCONQUERED

REASON FOR THIS

1. To test Israel Judges 3:1a, 4a

a) Those who had not known war in Canaan Judges 3:1b

b) To see if Israel would obey Him Judges 3:4b

2. An old principle

a) Testing of the first generation in the days of Moses

b) Testing stated as a principle Exodus 15:25

c) To test if they would obey the commandments of God given by Moses Judges 3:4

HOW WELL DID ISRAEL FARE?

And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons; and they served their gods Judges 2:6

1. Israel ignored all the commandments of God

2. They learned next to nothing despite their great suffering

3. They were hopelessly compromised

a) Marriage pacts were made
b) Most marriage pacts involved a strong religious element
c) The subsequent generations worshiped the gods of Canaan
