1. The Benefits of Meditation are many

a) Physical
b) Mental
c) Emotional
d) Spiritual

2. The Practice of Meditation

a) Meditation at the End of the Day   (Psalm 4)
b) Meditation as the Day begins   (Psalm 5)

PLANNED MEDITATION

1. The practice of Meditation in the Night

“Meditate within your heart on you bed”   Psalm 4:4
a) Review of the day
b) Reflection of the day
c) Retiring for the night

2. The practice of Meditation in the Morning

“Consider my meditation”   Psalm 5:1b
“My voice you shall hear in the morning, O LORD;
In the morning I will direct it to You and I will look up”   Psalm 5:3
a) Beginning the Day with Prayer
b) Beginning the Day with Meditation
c) Beginning the Day with God

CONSCIOUSNESS OF WHO GOD IS

1. Meditation cultivates Consciousness of God

2. Consciousness of the Person of God

a) What God is not associated with   (Psalm 5:4)
i) Not associated with wickedness
ii) Not associated with evil
b) Who will not be in the Presence of God   (Psalm 5:5)
i) The boastful
ii) The workers of iniquity
c) What God would do with the unrepentant wicked   (Psalm 5:6)
i) He will destroy those who speak falsehood
ii) He abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful

COMMITMENT TO SEEK THE LORD

1. Coming to the House of God   (Psalm 5:7)

a) In the multitude of God’s mercy
b) In reverence
c) In worship

2. Coming to God in prayer   (Psalm 5:8)

a) To seek God’s leading
b) In the presence of enemies
c) To make the path of life straight

CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE PRESENCE OF EVIL

1. Important not to be naïve about the wicked   (Psalm 5:9)

a) No faithfulness in their mouth
b) Inward part is destruction
c) Their throat is an open sepulchre
d) They use flattery frequently

2. Important to pray about the wicked   (Psalm 5:10)

a) That God would pronounce them guilty
b) That they might fall in their own counsels
c) That they might be cast out
in the multitude of their transgressions
d) The wicked have rebelled against God

CONSCIOUS PRACTICE OF REJOICING IN GOD

1. Rejoicing is best practised consciously   (Psalm 5:11)

a) Those who trust in God should rejoice
They should shout for joy
b) Those who love God’s name
They should always be joyful in the Lord

2. Special Reasons for Rejoicing in the Lord   (Psalm 5:11-12)

a) Because God defends them
b) Because God will bless the righteous
c) Because God’s favour will be their shield

CHALLENGE TO PRACTISE MEDITATION

1. At Night   (Psalm 4)

2. In the Morning   (Psalm 5)
