TWO OTHER KINGDOM PARABLES

47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind,
48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away.
49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just,
50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 13:47-50

1. Parable of the End of the Age

a) A Dragnet is cast into the sea
b) When the net is full it would be drawn to the shore
c) The fishes are sorted out:
i) The good fish are gathered into vessels
ii) The bad fish are thrown away
c) The End of the Age
i) The angels will come
ii) They will sort the Just from the Wicked
iii) The wicked would be cast into the furnace of fire
iv) There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth

2. The Parable of the Householder

51 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?”
They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
52 Then He said to them, “Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

Matthew 13:51-52

a) The Lord Jesus asked if the Disciples had understood all the Parables
b) They replied in the Affirmative
c) The Commendation of the Disciples
i) The Lord Jesus commended the Disciples
ii) They were compared to scribes (scholars in those days)
d) The Parable of the Householder
i) He owns a house and he has many things in it
ii) He has treasures that are old
iii) He also has treasures that are new
iv) He thoroughly enjoys what he had in his household

CHALLENGES

1. To know the Significance of these Parables

a) Potential

c) End of the Age
d) Happiness as a Householder
2. The words of warning must also be heeded
a) Bad Soil
b) Tares
c) Bad fish

3. Let there be wisdom sought and found

a) Our part is to seek wisdom
i) As Disciples
ii) As scribes
b) Blessings abound
i) When knowledge is gained
ii) When wisdom is found
