Message Notes

UNDERSTANDING PROPHECY

When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.   2 Samuel 7:12, 13

1. Physical fulfillment

a) God gave a promise to David concerning his seed
b) The fulfillment was done in an unusual manner
c) His seed was a reference to Solomon. He did become King
i) Yet he was not the firstborn. The firstborn is usually the one who is made king
ii) Solomon was not even next in line as “second born”…yet he was made King
d) His kingdom was meant to be established forever
e) But the subsequent kings that followed Solomon failed

2. The Spiritual fulfillment

a) Embedded and hidden in this prophecy is the promise of the Messiah And I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.   2 Samuel 7:12, 13
b) It was a cryptic prophecy
c) It is an everlasting reign
d) The Messiah will fulfil it as the Son of David

TIME WILL NOT IN ANY WAY CAUSE THE PROPHETIC WORD TO BE ERODED

1. Over time, the word of prophecy holds true

2. This is proven in Matthew’s declaration of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of David The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham   Matthew 1:1

3. He records the genealogy of Jesus So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.   Matthew 1:17

a) Abraham to David …14 generations
b) David to Israel’s captivity… 14 generations
c) The captivity to Christ …14 generations

4. Some considerations to note

a) There was continuity of the prophecy despite having bad kings
b) There was continuity of the prophecy despite those who were enemies…threats from other nations
c) There was continuity of the prophecy even when they entered into captivity

5. Time proved that the prophecy of Christ as the Son of David was true and reliable.

THE FULFILLMENT OF THE PROPHECY AS THE SON OF DAVID

1. God’s protection

2. God’s provision

3. God’s power

WORSHIPPING OUR KING… THE SON OF DAVID

1. In absolute confidence in the prophecy of God.

2. In humility, standing in awe of the Jesus Christ

3. In celebration and worship our King, the Son of David
