LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD

(I) THE WONDERFUL LOVE OF GOD

1. Expressed

“Because the LORD loves you…” Deuteronomy 7:8

2. Evidenced

a) Deliverance from bondage to Egypt ( Deuteronomy 7:8 )

b) Chosen to be a special treasure ( Deuteronomy 7:6 )

(II) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO THE LOVE OF GOD

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One!
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.”
Deuteronomy 6:4-5

“Therefore you shall love the LORD your God and keep His charge, His statutes and His judgments and His commandments always.” Deuteronomy 11:1

1. Fact of love for God is to be seen in its fullness

a) To love the Lord with all our heart

b) To love Him with all our soul

c) To love Him with all our strength

2. Fulfillment of our love for God is prescribed

a) We are to keep the Lord’s commandments ( Deuteronomy 11:1, 8 )

b) The word of God is to be laid up in our heart /soul ( Deuteronomy 11:18 )

c) The word of God is to be taught to our children ( Deuteronomy 11:19 )

(III) SPECIAL BLESSINGS PROMISED TO THOSE WHO LOVE GOD

“For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do- to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him…” Deuteronomy 11:22

1. Basis of the promise of this set of special blessing- our love for God

2. Two special blessings highlighted:-

a) God will fight for us ( Deuteronomy 11:23 )

i) Against all enemies

ii) All enemies would be subdued

b) God will make us indomitable ( Deuteronomy 11:25 )

i) Great strength

ii) Great success
