Message Notes

(I) THE PRACTICE OF CONDUCT THAT IS WORTHY OF THE GOSPEL

“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ,” Philippines 1:27

1. The command to conduct ourselves well

2. Having a singular focus

3. A life that is highly comparable to the worth of the gospel

“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.”
1 Timothy 1:11
“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed,” Ephesians 1:13

(II) GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR OUR CONDUCT

1. Christ as the main guiding principle

a) To magnify Christ

“According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.” Philippines 1:20

b) To live for Christ

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippines 1:20

2. Consideration of the brethren as another guiding principle

a) The needs of the brethren

“But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.” Philippines 1:22-24

b) The progress of their faith

“And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress” Philippines 1:25

c) The joy of faith

“And joy of faith,” Philippines 1:25

(III) THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING OURSELVES IN A WORHTY MANNER

1. No need of anyone to watch over us

“So that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs,” Philippines 1:27

2. Stand fast in one spirit

“That you stand fast in one spirit,” Philippines 1:27

3. Striving together in one mind

“With one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,” Philippines 1:28

4. No fear of our adversaries

“And not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.” Philippines 1:28
