(I) THE CHALLENGE TO SING OF GOD’S POWER

“But I will sing of Your power.” Psalm 59:16

1. Singing by focusing on God’s attribute of power

a) Power – Abstract idea

b) Strength – Concrete idea

i) Strength for a nation

“O You his Strength…” Psalm 59:9

ii) Strength for an individual

“O my Strength” Psalm 59:17

2. Singing despite the continuing problems of life

(II) REASON FOR SINGING – THE EXPERIENCE OF GOD’S POWER AND STRENGTH

1. Praying to God for His help

a) Faith to ask for help

i) To deliver ( Psalm 59:1 )

ii) To defend ( Psalm 59:1 )

b) Invoking Powerful names of God

i) “O Lord God of hosts” Psalm 59:5

ii) “The God of Israel…” Psalm 59:5

2. Praying with Knowledge of God’s power

3. Patience to wait on the Lord and His power

a) Waiting on God as our strength and our defense ( Psalm 59:9-10 )

b) Waiting on the mercy of God ( Psalm 59:9 )

4. Personal experience of God’s power

a) Experience – God being there as defense and refuge ( Psalm 59:16 )

b) Truth – Always seeing God as our defense ( Psalm 59:17 )

“Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning…” Psalm 59:16
