(I) THE SYMBOL OF THE FATHER’S SEAL ON HIS SON

“…because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” John 6:27

1. It represents closeness of association with the Father

2. It represents authentication

3. It represents authority

4. It represents absolute power and might

5. It represents approval

(II) THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GOD SETTING HIS SEAL ON HIS SON

1. Helping the people see Jesus as the bread of life

a) All called by God will not be cast out ( John 6:37 )

b) The Lord would raise them up in the last day. ( John 6:39 )

2. Helping the people see the special relationship with the Father

a) Doing the will of the Father.

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” John 6:38

b) Knowing the Father and reflecting Him

“Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.” John 6:46

c) Living because of the Father ( John 6:57 )

“As the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.” John 6:57

3. Helping people deal with their problems

a) Dealing with the problem of people being confused

i) The multitude’s focus on a physical king ( John 6:15 )

ii) The multitude’s focus on physical provision ( John 6:26 )

b) Dealing with the problem of people being contrary

i) The Jews sought to kill him ( John 5:16 )

ii) The Jews complained against Him ( John 6:41 )

(III) THE SYMBOL OF THE FATHER’S SEAL ON OUR LIVES

1. It represents our Position before God – Being sealed with the Holy Spirit

“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise…to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14

2. It represents Power from God – The dynamic power of God made available to us

“And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power” Ephesians 1:19

3. It represents Personal accountability to the Spirit of God

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30

4. It represents Practical challenges as children of God

“Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children.” Ephesians 5:1

a) To walk in love ( Ephesians 5:2 )

b) To walk in the light ( Ephesians 5:8 )

c) To walk in wisdom ( Ephesians 5:15 )
