Subject: The Parables of the Lord Jesus

Title: The Parable of the Wheat and Tares
Sometimes called “The Parable of the Wheat and Weeds”

Text: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

THE FEATURES OF THE PARABLE OF THE WHEAT AND TARES
Matthew 13:24-30

1. Subject: “The Kingdom of heaven” Matthew 13:24

2. The sower

a) He sowed good seeds
b) In the field (Matthew 13:24)

3. While men slept
His servants

4. His enemy

a) He came
b) He sowed tares
c) He went away (Matthew 13:25)

5. Observation of the servants

a) Grain had sprouted
b) A crop was produced
c) The tares had grown too

6. The query of the servants

a) Good seed had been sown
b) How did the tares come up? (Matthew 13:27)

7. The answer
An enemy has done this (Matthew 13:28)

8. A solution offered

a) To remove the tares (Matthew 13:28)
b) This seems a good solution

9. The reply of the Master

a) No!
b) If tares are taken out
c) The wheat may be affected adversely (Matthew 13:29)
d) Let both grow together until the harvest (Matthew 13:30)
e) Reapers would be sent
i) Tares would be separated, tied into bundles and burnt
ii) Wheat would be taken into the barn (Matthew 13:30)

Matthew 13:37-43

He is the Son of Man (Matthew 13:37)

The world (Matthew 13:38a)
c) Good seeds
The sons of the kingdom (Matthew 13:38b)

The sons of the wicked one (Matthew 13:38c)

The devil (Matthew 13:39a)
f) The harvest
The end of the age (Matthew 13:39b)
g) The reapers
The angels of God (Matthew 13:39c)
h) The tares will be gathered and burned (Matthew 13:40)
