THE LORD’S WORD TO MOSES

1. God had ended His instruction to Moses

2. The language employed

a) Your people
b) Whom you brought out of the land of Egypt

3. The sin of the children of Israel highlighted   (Exodus 32:7-9)

a) They have corrupted themselves
b) They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them
c) They have themselves a moulded calf and worshipped it
d) And sacrificed to it
e) And said, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of Egypt!”
f) A stiff-necked people

4. Angry threat of the Lord   (Exodus 32:9)

a) Let Me alone
b) That My wrath may burn hot against them
c) And I may consume them

5. A special promise to Moses

“And I will make you a great nation”   (Exodus 32:9)

MOSES’ INTERCESSION

1. Obviously Interactive Prayer

a) God
b) Moses

2. Using the word “why” meaningfully

a) Why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt?   (Exodus 32:11)
b) Why should the Egyptians speak (and say) bad things about God?   (Exodus 32:12)

3. Strong pleas

a) Turn from Your fierce wrath   (Exodus 32:12)
b) Relent from this harm to Your people   (Exodus 32:12)
c) Remember Abraham, Isaac and Jacob   (Exodus 32:13)
d) Plea concerning the Promised Land   (Exodus 32:13)

GOD’S RESPONSE

1. The Lord relented
2.The harm threatened would not be unleashed
