1. Go among us

2. Even though we are a stiff-necked people

3. Pardon our iniquity and our sin

4. Take us as Your inheritance   (Exodus 34:9)

GOD’S RESPONSE TO MOSES’ PLEA

1. Behold, I make a covenant

a) This covenant has already been given   (Exodus 24)

b) This is an emphatic word from the Lord about the covenant given

2. Marvellous deeds of the Lord promised

a) I will do marvels such as have not been done before in all the earth

b) All the people shall see the work of the LORD

c) It is an awesome thing that I will do with you   (Exodus 34:10)

3. Strong admonition

a) Observe what I command you this day

b) Behold, I am driving out from before you

i) The Amorite

ii) The Canaanite

iii) The Hittite

iv) The Perezzite

v) The Hivite

vi) The Jebusite

c) Take heed to yourself

i) Lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land

ii) Lest it be a snare in your midst

iii) But you shall destroy their altars

iv) Break their sacred pillars

v) Cut down their wooden images   (Exodus 34:12-13)

4. The nature of God highlighted

a) You shall worship no other god

b) The LORD is a jealous God   (Exodus 34:14)

5. Warning about the danger of making a covenant with the inhabitants of the land

a) Playing the harlot with their gods

b) Make sacrifice to their gods

c) Eating of the sacrifices made to other gods

d) Mixed marriages

e) No graven image is to be made   (Exodus 34:15-17)
