MISCELLANEOUS LAWS

A. Murder

1. Unresolved murders   (Deuteronomy 21:1)

2. Religious ceremonies to be performed   (Deuteronomy 21:2-5)

a) Elders of the nearest city
b) Judges
c) Offering of a heifer by priests
d) They are to seek the Lord’s blessings
e) By their word… all matters are settled

3. Declaration to be made   (Deuteronomy 21:6-7)

a) By the elders
b) To declare innocence

4. Prayer to be offered   (Deuteronomy 21:8)

a) For atonement for the unresolved murder   (Deuteronomy 21:8)
b) Pray for mercy not to be condemned for the shedding of innocent blood   (Deuteronomy 21:8)
To do what is right in the sight of the Lord!   (Deuteronomy 21:9)

B. FEMALE WAR CAPTIVES

(Deuteronomy 21:10-14)

1. A beautiful woman captive

2. Desired as a wife

3. Steps to take

a) One month of mourning for her parents
b) Captive clothing to be set aside

4. Marriage possible

5. If marriage fails

a) She must be set free
b) She cannot be sold as a slave

C. FIRSTBORN INHERITANCE

(Deuteronomy 21:15)

1. Multiple marriages

a) Loved wife
b) Unloved wife

2. Children born to both

3. Firstborn

a) Of the unloved wife
b) Of the loved wife

4. The true firstborn

a) He is to be acknowledged
b) He is to have a double portion

D. REBELLIOUS SON

(Deuteronomy 21:18-21)
