Learning To Cope With The Problems Of Life

How do we cope when we are faced with difficult problems in life? The Psalmist had encountered evildoers who sought to do him in. They had sought to do wicked things against him. They were aptly described as “the wicked of the earth” (Psalm 119:119). When we are faced with such problems in life, our comfort is in knowing that the Lord can be our hiding place.

Finding Safety In God

How may we find God as our hiding place?

1. Through Hope In His Word

“You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in Your word.”

Psalm 119:114

It is through His word that we can discover God as a solid refuge and fortress. It is the word of God that gives us a deep sense of hope in Him. The Lord can be a place of quiet refuge from a world of great evil and problems. He can be a real source of comfort and strength. It is through His word that we can find hope.

2. Through Praying According To His Word

“Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live”
Psalm 119:116

When we pray according to His word, He will hear us. The Psalmist prayed that the Lord would uphold him according to His word. He prayed for the Lord to keep him in His hands so that he would be safe (Psalm 119:117). We too can find safety in God through prayer. Let’s learn to pray so much more according to His word.

Loving The Word Of God

“But I love Your law.”
Psalm 119:113

“Therefore I love Your testimonies.”
Psalm 119:119

Since it is through His word that we can find safety, let’s love His word even more. Let’s seek to increase our love for the Lord’s words. His word can bring encouragement and comfort to our hearts. Let’s make it our determination to treasure and love His word, and find a deep sense of hope according to His word.
