Conducting Ourselves Worthy Of The Gospel Of Christ

Standards play an important role in our lives. Students take exams so that they can be gauged on whether they have reached certain educational standards. In the working world, there are company standards to reach and maintain. In living out the Christian life, we also have spiritual standards.

“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs”
Philippians 1:27

Paul wrote to the Philippian Church of the need to live their lives in a manner that was worthy of the gospel of Christ. The word “conduct” in the Greek means “to live as a good citizen”. As Christians, we are to be good “citizens” of the kingdom of God. Our conduct should be distinct from this world. The basis of living our lives in such a way is the gospel of Christ. If we have experienced the great joy and hope in understanding the gospel and being redeemed, then let’s walk worthy of it. Let’s truly seek to live up to this great privilege. Furthermore, this standard of walking worthy of the gospel must also be maintained. Whether Paul was with the Philippian Church or not, they were to live their life consistently in truth. Let’s also be challenged to have a lifestyle that is worthy of the Lord.

The Expression Of Walking Worthy Of The Gospel – Unity

How do we know that we have walked worthy of the gospel? There will come a great sense of unity and oneness among us.

1. Standing Fast In One Spirit

“That you stand fast in one spirit”
Philippians 1:27

When we walk worthy of the gospel, we will not allow anything and anyone to come between us. There will be this oneness of spirit in standing fast for the gospel. We will stand strong in this unity of heart and mind. We will not allow any schism or division to form among us. Let’s never allow anyone to create disharmony within the Church.

2. Striving Together With One Mind

“With one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel”
Philippians 1:27

The words “striving together” mean “to labour or contend together against anyone in opposition”. The Philippian Church had a problem where adversaries would come in and try to lead people astray. Paul was challenging them that they should with oneness of mind combat anyone who tried to cause dissension in the Church. Young people, if there are people who are saying things that may promote conflict within the Church or lead people away from the faith, do let us know. Let us with one mind seek to guard and protect the unity that we have as a Church.
