Reflecting On The Works Of God

As 2011 comes to an end in a very short while, it is good for us to reflect on the works of God. What are the works of God? Very often, our focus tends to be on God’s hand in our life as an individual. The challenge is for us to go beyond just His work in our lives to the great works of God.

“The works of the Lord are great”
Psalm 111:2

“His work is honorable”
Psalm 111:3

The phrase “the work of God” is mentioned once in this psalm. The idea of “the works of God” is mentioned four times. The emphasis of the Psalmist is on the overall works of God. Let’s ponder and focus on the Lord’s works as we come to the end of the year.

Appreciating The Splendour Of The Works Of God

There are different descriptions concerning the works of God:

  1. Great (Psalm 111:2)
  2. Honorable (Psalm 111:3)
  3. Glorious (Psalm 111:3)
  4. Wonderful (Psalm 111:4)
  5. Powerful (Psalm 111:6)
  6. Veracious (Psalm 111:7)
  7. Just (Psalm 111:7)
  8. Truthful (Psalm 111:8)
  9. Upright (Psalm 111:8)

It is truly awesome to be able to see God’s works in all their glory. God is gracious in providing for those who fear Him. He sends redemption to His people. We are meant to study His works and to remember them well. Let’s stand in awe of the splendour of His deeds.

Responding To The Works Of God

How can we respond to the works of God?

1. Praising God For His Works

“Praise the Lord!
I will praise the Lord with my whole heart”

Psalm 111:1

When we truly appreciate the works of God, our natural response is to give Him praise. We are to praise the Lord with all our heart. Let’s make it a point to come for Down Memory Lane Service this Saturday. Let’s come and give praise to the Lord for all that the Lord has done and is doing.

2. Fearing God

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”
Psalm 111:10

When we see how awesome God’s deeds are, we would choose to fear and honour Him. Let’s be wise in seeking to fear the Lord and continue to do so for the New Year.
