Standing In Awe Of A Great King

“For the Lord Most High is awesome;
He is a great King over all the earth.”

Psalm 47:2

“Awesome” was the word that the Psalmist used to describe God. When he saw God for the great King that He was, he could not help but stand in awe of Him. He recognised God as the great king over all the earth. Do we stand in awe of who God is?

“He will subdue the peoples under us,
And the nations…”

Psalm 47:3

“God reigns over the nations;
God sits on His holy throne.”

Psalm 47:8

God is a conquering King who is able to subjugate all nations under His people. He is victorious over all armies. Not only is He able to subdue them, He also reigns over them. He sits on His throne and has absolute control over all things. No matter what happens in this life, the irrefutable truth is that God reigns. There must be a personal appropriation of this “Kingship” concept. The reality of God as King has to grow on us until it affects us deeply. It must affect our heart, mind and soul till we stand in awe of Him.

Learning To Exalt The Lord As Our King

As we stand in awe of God, our challenge is exalt the Lord as our King.

1. With Understanding

“For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with understanding.”

Psalm 47:7

When we sing praises to the Lord, it should be with tremendous understanding. Understanding the Lord for who He really is helps us to exalt Him. Let’s seek to grow in our understanding of the Lord as our great and awesome King.

2. With Spontaneity And Triumph

“Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with the voice of triumph.”

Psalm 47:1

The Psalmist also encouraged all to be spontaneous in their worship of God as King. There should be a great sense of joy and triumph even as we praise God.

3. With Fervour And Vibrancy

“Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our king, sing praises!”

Psalm 47:6

There must also be a greater sense of fervour in singing to the Lord. Let’s seek to offer vibrant worship to the Lord. Let’s truly exalt the Lord as our great King.
