THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH AND SONG

Limited Human Strength

We should realize by now how inadequate our human strength can be. Very often, it tends to be limited in the face of challenges. The Psalmist in the text of Psalm 118 wrote of how he was going through a most trying time. His life was in great distress (Psalm 118:5). His enemies surrounded him “like bees” (Psalm 118:12). He was obviously encountering a most “painful” time in his life. When we have to face up to such challenges, our faith and strength can fail and falter. We recognize how limited our human strength can be. It is vital that we learn to turn so much more to our Lord.

The Lord As The Source Of Unlimited Strength

“The Lord is my strength”
Psalm 118:14

The Lord is One who has unlimited strength. His resource of strength is over and above what we can imagine it to be. Our challenge is to tap into this divine strength.

1. Taking Time To Reflect On The Lord’s Help

“But the Lord helped me.”
Psalm 118:13

Strength comes when we reflect on how the Lord has been our help. The Psalmist was greatly helped by the Lord when he faced opposition from his enemies. When he reflected on the Lord’s help and goodness in his life, he appreciated Him as his source of strength. Let’s take time to reflect on how God has been our help this year.

2. Learning To Walk Righteously

“Open to me the gates of righteousness”
Psalm 118:19

Strength also comes when we learn to walk in righteousness before God. The idea of righteousness is not just seen as a path that we must walk on. It is also seen as a gate that we must walk through. This is the realm of righteousness that we are to live in.

The Lord As Our Song

“The Lord is my strength and song”
Psalm 118:14

“And I will praise the Lord.”
Psalm 118:19

Strength and finding joy in the Lord go very much together. When we have the Lord as our strength, He will put a song in our heart. He will become our song. There will come a great sense of joy because the Lord has been our salvation. We will experience the reality of the Lord being there for us. Our natural response is to sing to the Lord. We will declare His mighty works. Youth Conference 2008 is just a week away. If you have not signed up, please do so immediately. Let’s come and learn about how God can be our strength and song. Let’s seek to find the strength and joy to praise Him always.
