The Grave Danger Of Having A Worldly Mindset

Worldly wisdom can affect us far more than we realise. Today, some churches base the running of their church on secular principles. They manage the church like a business company. This can be most detrimental for the Church community and its future. The apostle Paul had to address a similar problem when it was reported that schism and division had affected the Corinthian church. One of the causes was worldly wisdom. This was the wisdom used by the rulers of this age. Ultimately when it is used in any endeavour in the Church, it would result in nothing (1 Corinthians 2:6). Young people, let’s seek to reject the worldly wisdom of this world and truly seek for this spiritual wisdom from God.

The Challenge To Seek For Spiritual Wisdom

The spiritual wisdom that Paul spoke of and employed as he preached Christ was from the Spirit of God. It is the Spirit that searches the deep things of God, which He would reveal to us as we learn to have a spiritual mindset. How can we go about having this?

1. Receiving The Spirit Of God

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we night know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”
1 Corinthians 2:12

Spiritual wisdom cannot just be gained through self-learning. Paul wrote of how the church had received the Spirit of God into their lives that they may have deep and perfect knowledge concerning the things that the Lord has graciously given. We need to receive the Spirit of God in our life before we can know the deep things of God.

2. Being Taught By The Spirit Through Comparing Spiritual Things With Spiritual

“These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”
1 Corinthians 2:13

Paul also explained that the things that he preached concerning the Lord Jesus were not taught through the wisdom that is from the world. The wisdom that Paul employed came through the teaching of the Spirit. The Lord promised that He would specially teach all things concerning Christ and His name (John 14:26). He will teach when we compare similar passages with each other.

3. Seeking To Have Spiritual Discernment Through The Spirit

“Because they are spiritually discerned.”
1 Corinthians 2:14

Only a person who has the Spirit of God can spiritually discern the things of God. A natural man cannot understand the deep things of God. They are to be spiritually learnt and ascertained. The more we use our spiritual senses, the more we can discern.

4. Having The Mind Of Christ

“But we have the mind of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 2:16

Ultimately, having the Spirit of God within us, being taught by the Spirit, having the ability to discern spiritually through Him, we would have the mind of Christ. We would then have this spiritual mindset that Christ had, where we would seek to be humble and spiritually wise. Let’s be challenged to know His word and relate to the Spirit of God until we have this mind of Christ.
