God Cares Enough To Know Us

Does God really know everything about us? The answer is a resounding “Yes”. There is absolutely nothing that He does not know about us. On the one hand, such truths can be quite daunting to accept and yet, on the other hand, it is most comforting. David had discovered this wonderful truth and sought to reflect this in the text of Psalm 139.

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.”
Psalm 139:1

That this great and almighty God who rules the heavens and the earth bothers to know about us brings much comfort. The Lord has searched us out and has come to know everything about us. It encourages my heart to know that God cares enough to know me … us.

Recognising An Omniscient God

“You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.”

Psalm 139:2-4

There is no one who knows us better than God Himself. Firstly, God knows about our movements. He has knowledge of where we go from place to place. Secondly, He knows our past, present and future thoughts. God has foreknowledge of all our thoughts in the future. That would mean that he knows what we would be thinking in 10 years’ time … if we are still alive. And He can do this for 7 billion people. That is truly amazing! Thirdly, God knows our path in life and our idiosyncrasies. He has knowledge of the way we are going to take in life. Nothing is hidden from Him (Hebrews 4:13). Fourthly, God knows what we have said and what we are going to say in the future. The more I think about how what God knows about us, the more “MIND-BLOWING” it is.

Acknowledging God’s Protection In Our Life

“You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.”

Psalm 139:5

Moreover, the Lord God has also placed an invisible hedge or fence around us to protect us from harm. He has placed that hedge from the day we were born. God will specially protect us as we go into the future. And He is personally involved in watching over us and blessing us with His hand. King David had seen how God specially protected him when he was in the wilderness. The Lord was his protection. Looking back these many years, can we also acknowledge God’s special protection in our life?

Having A Sense Of Wonder At God

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.”

Psalm 139:6

When we think about the omniscience of God, it is truly AWESOME! How can God know everything about everyone in one moment! How is that even possible! Truly I echo the words of the Psalmist when he said that such knowledge is too wonderful for him. It goes beyond what I can imagine! Our only response to the omniscience of God is a sense of great wonder and praise to Him. Let learn to trust Him more as one who knows us and watches over us.
