THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS IN THE LIFE OF THE LORD JESUS

When the Lord Jesus was on this earth, He was both fully man and fully God. It still amazes us to consider how infinity and finite can co-exist in the same time and space. Because the Lord Jesus was fully man, He felt everything that man would feel. He can feel tiredness and weakness as we do. As such, the angels were sent by God to specially minister to the Lord Jesus. This is yet another aspect of the mystery of godliness. With each aspect that was brought across by Paul, there is a greater degree of confirmation about the godliness of the Lord Jesus. Paul wrote of how the Lord Jesus was specially seen by angels.

“Seen by angels”
1 Timothy 3:16

The angels saw and observed all that the Lord Jesus did. They were in His presence watching over Him. What does it mean for the Lord Jesus to be seen by angels?

1. THE HEAVENLY HOST GLORIFYING THE LORD AT HIS BIRTH

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
‘Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’”
Luke 2:14

This was the biggest welcome that anyone could ever have with regards to a baby born into this world. The angel testified concerning the glory of the Lord and how He would bring peace to those who would seek to believe in Him. It must have been truly amazing to see the angels sing.

2. THE ANGELS MINISTERING TO HIM WHILE IN THE WILDERNESS

“And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.”
Mark 1:13

The angels specially protected Jesus from wild beasts and they specially ministered to His needs when He was being tempted.

3. THE ANGEL STRENGTHENS HIM IN PRAYER

“Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.”
Luke 22:43

When struggling in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, it was an angel who came and strengthened Him. There was the renewing of strength so that He could continue to pray to the Father.

4. THE TWO ANGELS SEEING THE RESURRECTED JESUS

“And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.”
John 20:12

There were also two angels who were with the Lord Jesus after He resurrected from the dead. They were able to confirm that the Lord Jesus had indeed risen. Thank God for this!

APPRECIATING THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS IN OUR LIFE TOO

“Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”
Hebrews 1:14

It is truly amazing to see how the angels were there for the Lord in both good and difficult times. Let’s seek to appreciate the ministry of angels who are specially sent to watch over us.
